Location: Global Level 1 Travel Health Notice
Event: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 1 Global Travel Health Notice for Measles. According to the CDC, measles is an ongoing risk around the world, and more international travelers are getting infected. Travelers can catch measles in many travel settings including travel hubs like airports and train stations, on public transportation like airplanes and trains, at tourist attractions, and at large, crowded events. Infected travelers can bring the disease back to their home communities where it can spread rapidly among people who are not immune.
Measles remains endemic in the Philippines. According to WHO data, reported cases rose by 33 percent – from 2,892 in 2023 to nearly 3,850 in 2024.
Actions to Take:
· Visit the CDC page on measles for additional information about the disease, including symptoms, prevention, and vaccinations.
· Refer to our list of local medical providers and health-related information on our country information page.
· Check with your medical provider if you have any questions regarding upcoming travel and vaccination options.
· Check with your travel insurance provider about evacuation options should you fall ill while overseas.
